Note from Opinion Editor Amelia Robinson: Local attorney Kyle Strickland was invited to expand on thoughts he expressed in a Facebook post following the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Ma'Khia Bryant by a Columbus police officer. Strickland's comments, made before he was added to the city's civilian police review board, drew both criticism and praise. “Do not let anyone tell you to ‘wait for all the facts’ while they simultaneously frame their own narrative of what occurred.” This is the opening line of my Facebook post in the wake of the Chauvin verdict and the police killing of Ma’Khia Bryant. I wrote about the power of racist narratives and police violence in America.
