In Lake Worth Beach, the little libraries are more than just nice to look at. The program recently passed a milestone of 500,000 books distributed, Lindsey said. It's also served as a lifeline for the community after the COVID-19 epidemic shut down the city's library for months. There are Little Free Library branches all over Palm Beach County, but no city has a setup as extensive as the one in Lake Worth Beach. That's due primarily to the tireless volunteer work of Lindsey, a former fashion designer who worked around the world before retiring to Florida in 1995. Five years ago, Lindsey discovered an online mention of Little Free Library, a program that began in Wisconsin in 2009.
