Take a bite out of carbon
A recent editorial by The Los Angeles Times asked "What will it take to change over to non-fossil energy sources? Strong government thumbs on the scale?”
That is not necessary with carbon fee and dividend, a solution that uses a market-based approach to reduce carbon. It has bipartisan support, is applauded by many economists and is one solution that will take the biggest bite out of our carbon emissions.
A fee is charged at the source of all carbon production. The fee increases at a predictable rate each year. The money collected as a fee on carbon producers is returned equally to all U.S. adults in a monthly check to cover rising prices. Studies show that for low- and middle-income citizens the monthly check will more than cover rising prices produced by the fee on carbon. Citizens and carbon producers will be motivated to switch to decreased-carbon and non-carbon energy sources as the yearly fee increases.
