Letters to the editor: Hemo sculpture an 'inappropriate way to spend public money' 8 Jan, 2021 08:00 PM 2 minutes to read Rotorua Daily Post Roger Steele, of Kapiti, loves the Hemo sculpture. Does he own property and pay rates in Rotorua? Or as a taxpayer did he chip in on the $200,000 Land Transport contribution? As a local who has been forced to pay twice (rates and taxes), of the half I can see above road level, I say it's an underwhelming, inappropriate way to spend public money. If someone "sees the light", they finally realise something or change their attitude or way of behaving, to a better one. Now that Te Putake o Tawa on Tarawera Road has "seen the light of day" (coming into existence), we're now seeing lights on at different times of day.
