Letters to the Editor: May 13, 2021 Meeting children’s educational needs early has long-term benefits I am a retired educator. When children enter school, they are full of energy, with a natural desire to learn. It is vital that we make learning possible for all. Many children who were so eager to learn in kindergarten feel like a failure by third grade if their academic and emotional needs are not met. I propose Indian River County Schools set up a pilot program in a high-needs elementary school. Each classroom should be staffed with a teacher and assistant. The small class size needs to remain the same. An assistant can provide individual and small group help.
