Texas is one of 25 states in the country ranked in the "high priority to achieve basic equality" category of Human Rights Campaign Foundation and Equality Federation Institute's 2020 state equality index. The Foundation is the "educational arm" of the Human Rights Campaign, which is the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer civil rights organization, according to the report. EFI is a social justice organization that also supports the LGBTQ community.
