Biden be allowed to be allowed in to intelligence belief intelligence the desperate search for survivors after migrant boats sink. A six month old baby is among thousands dead in the mediterranean. Welcome to the program. Police in lima have blocked protesters from reaching government headquarters. Voted out of office over corruption charges and replaced by the former head of congress. He will serve as the interim president until july. Mariana sanchez is live in the peruvian capital. It is the fourth day and night of protests over the removal over his removal on monday. How do you read the situation rayna . Situation right now . We have seen protesters on the streets not only of lima but different cities. Major and small cities all around the country. Since early today, protesting and of course what they want is for the new interim president to leave. Many people have been peacefully protesting display in the past few days, we have seen some violence. We have seen protesters throw rocks at police, riot police. Firing tear gas at protesters. Many plainclothes officers detaining people. Something that human rights organizations have said is illegal. Right now, people on the streets of lima. Thousands of people saying they want the interim president to leave. That they do not feel represented. People are angry. They say a mafia has taken over the government and especially congress that was able to impeach him with 105 votes. They say they are 68 lawmakers that have criminal investigations ongoing, investigations that go from homicide to fraud to Money Laundering and a long list of crimes. People say they should be unseated instead of having the president. People are on the streets. They say this was a coup detat of the legislative power and they feel marino should leave right now. With so much public anger, one wonders whether he could be reinstated. To the people have that much power . Could they change opinion . I think that many people would like to have him back, but i do not think that will be possible. There is a new cabinet that has been sworn in today. Legally, it is not possible. The constitutional tribunal has to clarify what moral incapacity, the argument the legislators used to unseat him. They will have a resolution next week before december. They said they would because i guess they feel they have to have a say and calm people down. Even if that resolution favors him, it is not retroactive. It is quite unlikely he could come back. Several people who are several analysts, politicians and folks who are worried about what is going on in the streets of peru say there should be another vote in congress with the votes of people who voted against the impeachment and some of those who are now thinking twice and wondering if they did the right thing. And to have enough votes, i think it is 40 votes they would need to unseat the interim president and name a new interim president neutral that would keep the waters calm in the streets of peru because the perception is that there has been a coup detat. That is a very serious proper to should a serious proposition they are making. It will certainly depend on what happens in the streets of the country. Thanks very much. Mariana sanchez for us in lima. Lets head to the u. S. Where a top election official has released a statement describing the president ial vote is the most secure in history. Alan fisher has more on this from washington, d. C. A significant announcement from an influential body. That is right. It is the joint statement from the elections infrastructure government coordinating council. The election Infrastructure Sector coordinating executive committees. Does not easily trip off the tongue but their verdict does. Their verdict says it is the most secure election carried out in american history. We have been saying for the last few hours donald trump has been tweeting out he believes 2. 7 million trump votes were deleted from election machines. The company that runs those machines said that simply did not happen. This watchdog is also backing it up. Adding in bold in their own statement, there is no evidence any of the voting systems deleted or lost abodes, changed about four was in lost votes were changed abodes was in any way compromised. This may add to the pressure to trump to concede the election. If not concede the election, at the very least acknowledge joe biden was the winner, is the winner and perhaps drop some of the legal actions he is staging throughout the country. In the last hour, the Trump Campaign has had another Conference Call for reporters. They say they are working through the process. They are still gathering evidence. They still believe a number of these cases they can convince the judge to throw out a number of these boats, but people close to donald trump keep insisting there may not be enough votes to turn the election. If this is if the legal challenges continue from the trump team, is this the game changer that would certainly get Senior Republicans that have been quiet and waiting for things to happen within the inner circles of the white house to actually step up as Chuck Schumer would like to see them step up . I do not think there are many republicans who want to speak out against donald trump. There are a couple reasons for that. They are worried he will take out his wrath on them on twitter and that will open them up to criticism in their home states. There is another reason as well. They want to keep donald trump and his base very much on board for the elections, the runoff elections for the senate that will take place in georgia on january the fifth. There have been a couple of senators who have said they have got to start at least giving joe biden the daily intelligence brief he should get as president elect and that should happen. They say if it does not start to happen by friday, then they will step in. That is tacit acceptance from a number of republican senators saying we think joe biden actually won the election but no one is coming out to say that openly apart from a couple of people like mitt romney. Others are insisting donald trump has every right as he does to test some of the claims he has got in court. As critics keep 20 out, they simply do not have enough of a claim to overturn the votes in some of these allimportant states. Joe biden may well start receiving that daily intelligence briefing at some point early next week. That would certainly make a lot of people involved in National Security happy because they believe extended period after the election in 2000 could have caused a problem when it came to dealing with National Security before 9 11 and they highlighted that. They are very keen there is no gap in knowledge and that joe biden starts to get this briefing soon. Just a small part of the transition that joe biden wants to see happen. Of course, the trumpet administration under pressure to do more because at the moment, they seem to have said we are not helping with this until the court cases are done. In a small town south of brussels, a funeral director is burying the dead. He says almost everyone dying in the area is a victim of covid19, something that was not the case in the first wave. In northern greece, a surge in infections is pushing hospitals to the limits. The difference is that the number of patients is much bigger and so is the pressure on the clinics in the icu units. Something that cannot come soon enough. There is widespread in anger widespread anger and fear in a married widespread anger and fear in armenia. Our correspondent is in the regional capital and says it appears people are leaving en masse toward the armenian border. We have seen very few civilians or military since we arrived here. The vast majority of people had left throughout the war and it seems no one intends to come back even though there is a cessation of hostilities ever since the ceasefire was signed on november 9. Driving here, we went through a region. It was a region armenia had occupied in 1994 and according to the agreement, it now has two returns to azerbaijan. On that road driving in the opposite direction, we saw a lot of civilians. We sell trucks carrying beds, all sorts of personal belongings. We also saw mirta terry personnel. Most like saw military personnel. We saw military underground dismantling their positions. We get the feeling when driving on that road that people are leaving en masse. They know they are not going to come back. They are taking with them as much as they can because they know that the life they knew before is not going to be the same anymore.
