Local state legislators meet in Wamego to speak to the public Residents from around the area gathered to hear the latest from their local legislators in Wamego. Local state legislators met in Wamego to speak with the public on current bills and issues in the legislature. Those participating included 17th District State Senator Jeff Longbine, of Emporia; 51st District Representative Ron Highland, of Wamego; 61st District Representative Francis Awerkamp, of St. Marys and 18th District Senator Kristen O’Shea, of Topeka. The legislative coffee took place at Iron Clad Coworking Wednesday afternoon. One of the issues addressed was retaining and attracting businesses to Kansas. Senator O’Shea, who is part of the Commerce Committee, says the market is currently competitive with the surrounding states, so they are looking at what other states are doing that is innovative.
