A man has been sentenced to more than 28 years in prison after pleading guilty on Monday to rape, kidnapping and burglary. Charles Lee Crews II, 38, pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 66-year-old woman in Nov. 2018 in Wilmington, according to a press release from New Hanover and Pender County District Attorney Ben David's Office. Crews broke into the women's residence at University Place Apartments on MacMillan Avenue by cutting a window screen and opening the window. After climbing through the window, he brandished a knife to facilitate the sexual assault, the release stated. DNA analysis by the North Carolina Crime Lab identified Crews as the offender.
