Police arrest man found standing in Fayetteville State University room

A man officials say was caught by a student as she slept in her campus bedroom last week was arrested Sunday.
Court and jail records indicate Derick Naquan Smith, 39, is charged with one count of second-degree burglary and two counts each of first-degree burglary, larceny after breaking and entering and secret peeping.
Fayetteville State University said in a news release Sunday that the incident happened Friday at the University Place Apartments. When the student woke to find a stranger in her bedroom, the man ran out. There were no signs of forced entry into the apartment, and no items were reported stolen, according to the release. ....

Fayetteville State Police make arrest after resident awakens to find intruder in bedroom

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) A person wanted in connection with an incident at University Place Apartments has been arrested, Fayetteville State University safety officials said Sunday.
There were no signs of forced entry into the apartment and no items were reported stolen.
Surveillance cameras did capture images of the man.
Bond was set at $220,000.

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - A man has pleaded guilty to breaking into a 66-year-old womanâs apartment and raping her in 2018, according to the New Hanover County District Attorneyâs Office.
Charles Lee Crews II, 38, entered guilty pleas in Superior Court on Monday to two counts of first-degree rape, and one count each of first-degree sexual offense, first-degree kidnapping, and first-degree burglary. He also pleaded guilty to multiple charges in connection with vehicle break-ins. ....

Man pleads guilty in Wilmington rape, kidnapping

A man has been sentenced to more than 28 years in prison after pleading guilty on Monday to rape, kidnapping and burglary.
Charles Lee Crews II, 38, pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 66-year-old woman in Nov. 2018 in Wilmington, according to a press release from New Hanover and Pender County District Attorney Ben David s Office.
Crews broke into the women s residence at University Place Apartments on MacMillan Avenue by cutting a window screen and opening the window. After climbing through the window, he brandished a knife to facilitate the sexual assault, the release stated.
DNA analysis by the North Carolina Crime Lab identified Crews as the offender. ....

Charles Lee Crews II pleads guilty to sexual assault

NEW HANOVER COUNTY According to the New Hanover Superior Court, 38-year-old Charles Lee Crews II pled guilty to the sexual assault of a 66‐year‐old woman. Crews was charged with two counts of first-degree rape, first-degree sexual offense, and first-degree burglary.
The assaults took place November 2018 in the victim’s residence at University Place Apartments on MacMillan Ave. The assailant broke in by cutting the screen, opening a window and climbing through before threatening the woman with a knife.
North Carolina Crime Lab conclusively identified Crews as the offender through DNA analysis. He also was charged with breaking and entering into many vehicles and larceny of property within them, for which he pled guilty to as well. ....
