Maya Wiley wants to take $18M of NYPD money to fund communit

NYC mayoral hopeful Maya Wiley has proposed defunding the police by $1 billion
She wants to use $18 million of police money to create a special 'Participatory Justice Fund' to specifically help curb a surge in shootings
The fund would allow locals in badly-affected neighborhoods to decide on their own ways to curb gun violence
The locals may use the money to fund community programs and therapy for at-risk individuals 
Wiley has proposed expanding Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) programs
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently endorsed Wiley ahead of the June 22 Democratic primary
