If nothing else, the pandemic has taught us how to be together without being together. The virtual world is our world, as we continue working from home and move seamlessly between conference calls and Zoom meetings. A Pew Research Center survey from October shows just 20% of U.S. workers worked from home before COVID-19 struck, and that's risen to 71%. More than half of those who responded – 54% – said they would want to continue working from home when the pandemic is over. Though far from ideal, the situation has worked for many – including elected bodies such as the Fort Wayne City Council, which has held several meetings in which at least one member has attended via conference call. It's the way of the future, and state lawmakers are right to address an increasing reliance on out-of-office work.
