Metro began a series of four public hearings about its proposed budget Monday, just as Congress is taking action that may render many proposed cuts obsolete.
Over the weekend the Senate passed a $1.9 trillion COVID relief bill that includes about $30 billion for transit agencies nationwide. Based on previous relief bills, Metro is likely to get hundreds of millions of dollars of that amount.
The relief bill still has to pass the U.S. House a second time due to changes in the Senate bill and be signed by the president, but both of those things are widely expected to happen this week.
