Editor’s Note: This is part six of a collection of feature stories examining what COVID left behind, and highlighting the ongoing regional economic development that will forge a new path forward. With robust demand for housing and major projects on the way or under construction, the post-pandemic future looks bright for the Fargo-Moorhead area. The region hopes to get a big boost from major projects that include a 1.3-million square-foot Amazon distribution center under construction in Fargo, and a $2.75 billion flood diversion project designed to protect homes and businesses from the swelling Red River. Overseen by the St. Paul office of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the diversion project is expected to generate thousands of jobs — and offer long-term economic benefits — on both sides of the river in the fast-growing region.
