View Comments Two Elmira children who were reported missing Sunday have been found safe, and their father is facing criminal charges. Around 6:45 p.m. Sunday, the mother of two children, ages 9 and 11, filed a report with police indicating the children had not returned from visitation with their father, according to the Elmira Police Department. The mother reported she feared the father was going to take the children out of state. An officer followed up on the report, but the children were not located at that time, police said. On Monday, investigators continued looking into the matter and determined the father, identified as Jonathan J. Gavazzi, had vacated his residence, had not been to work and likely left the area with the children.
