It was trapped in a line in a North Mississippi River, but officers from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks responded and saved it from what likely would have been a slow death. "The pelican was located at the Coldwater River right at the Tate County line," said officer Zane Stricklin. "There was a concerned citizen (who called). What I got was the bird was tangled in some line right off the road." Stricklin and fellow officer Marcus Christon responded. "It turned out to be fishing line and it had a hook in its wing," Stricklin said. "The fishing line he was entangled in was tangled in a vine. It would have definitely died had we not intervened."
