JOINT BASE McGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST — Active coronavirus cases at a federal prison here appear to be on the decline, but congressional leaders from New Jersey have renewed their call to end inmate transfers to FCI Fort Dix. Led by U.S. Senators Robert Menendez and Cory Booker, the state's congressional delegation sent a second letter to Bureau of Prisons (BOP) Director Michael Carvajal this week calling for the end of inmate transfers. The letter also requests the BOP outline its plan for allocating and administering the COVID-19 vaccine. The BOP had previously instituted a moratorium on all inmate transfers to the federal prison through Nov. 23 as active cases skyrocketed, eventually topping over 300.
