Mother still waiting for answers after 9-year-old daughter killed in Gresham crash Updated Mar 10, 2021; Posted Mar 10, 2021 Baylei Martins-Read, 9, was killed in a car crash in Gresham over the weekend. Her mother is still waiting to find out if criminal charges will be filed against the driver. Facebook Share Victoria Martins-Read was walking to a bus stop with her two daughters Saturday evening when her world changed forever. Her youngest daughter, 2-year-old Maggie, had kicked off her shoes during a stop at a nearby store so Baylei, her 9-year-old, had stopped to help the younger sibling get them back on. As Martins-Read waited near the corner of Northwest Eastman Parkway and Northwest Third Street around 5:45 p.m., she noticed a red vehicle approaching at a high rate of speed. The car jumped the curb, Martins-Read said, and struck the family.
