Are you essentially saying that to no longer have a motion to vacate raised by only member as this happened with matt gaetz bringing up the motion to vacate with former Speaker Mccarthy<\/a> . The other individuals, Matt Gaetz Matt<\/a> gaetz, i do not trust, but i think there is trust to find with the other individuals that voted with him. I think that this these last few days have been a time for conversation. Theyve been a time for reflection, and i think that now we need to get back in that room on Monday Or Tuesday<\/a> and have real conversations. Because like i said, this isnt about partisan politics. This is about getting our country back on track and making sure that we remain open now 37 days from now. I heard an interview with tim burchett a little bit earlier today in which he talked about how and hes one of the eight obviously for folks that dont know who voted to oust Speaker Mccarthy<\/a> who talked about the fact that he felt marginalized, that his voice was not being heard and there was over spending happening in congress. What is your reaction to that . I dont think anybodys voice was not heard. From everything that ive seen over the last nine months since we gavelled into the 118th Congress<\/a>, Speaker Mccarthy<\/a> and the entire Leadership Team<\/a> has had an open door policy, and obviously governing and running the United States<\/a> of america comes with compromise, and i think that there is no one member thats going to get everything and anything that they want. I think that we come to washington d. C. , we come to capitol hill, at least i did, with the idea that you need to work together. I reflect back often on my days as an nypd detective working with people from all different walks of life, different economic backgrounds, different color skin, different religions and certain different political ideologies. We got out of the car each and every day in some of the most violent neighborhoods in new york city to get the job done, and thats what we should be doing in congress. Its not about, you know, feeling that you didnt get your voice heard. I believe everyones voice is heard. I think, again, theres time for compromise, and we need to understand that were doing the work of the American People<\/a>. Were in the doing the work of our personal feelings. I want to read for you this oped from democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries<\/a> who pitched a plan for a Bipartisan Coalition<\/a> in the house. Let me read it for you. He says this, the details would beubject to negotiation, though the principals are no secret. The house should be restructured to promote government for consensus and facilitate u and down bills that have strong bipartisan support. In short the rules of the house should reflect the inescapable reality that republicans are reliant on democratic support to do the basics of governing. A small band of extremists should not be capable of obstructs that cooperatio what do you say back . What is your reaction to that . Is this a feasible plan . Im not certain. Obviously i have to read the plan in place, but i think that i do agree with the fact that we need to work in a bipartisan fashion. But i do believe and weve seen it throughout the 118th Congress<\/a> that republicans have passed good legislation. We have put bills on floor and been able to pass them. Obviously the last week or earlier this week, we did see matt gaetz, who i believe is an extremist, take out a personal vendetta on the floor of the House Of Representatives<\/a> to oust the Speaker Of The House<\/a>. What were seeing right now, it all could have been avoided if minority leader Hakeem Jeffries<\/a> and the rest of the democrats did not vote with matt gaetz. Do you know if youre going to vote for jordan, scalise or hern . I do not. I think that were going to see a lot come out over the next few days. I think that there may even be some others that are interested that are sort of keeping their powder dry and waiting to see how the next few days unfold. Thats important, thats when the pandemic was really hitting, so hes been in hong kong, basically been hanging out there for a really long time and trying to get this information to chinese intelligence officials. Whats really interesting is a lot of this is based off of his own Google Results<\/a> and a lot of the information that was on his icloud account that really gives you some real insight into what he was sort of Thinking Contemporaneously<\/a> at the time. So in these early months he was googling phrases like soldier defect, can you be extradited for treason, questions along those lines, and then he also prepared these word documents allegedly that were on his apple icloud that also sort of went into the details of these classed this classified information he wanted to pass along. Theres also an email to his sister that talks about what exactly he was thinking and said he learned information while working for the military that made him feel unsafe to live in america and that he wanted to sort of cut ties with america as much as he could. And actually prepared a word document written in chinese language, important classified high level documents is what it said, and then created another word document that ran through the information that he was actually trying to pass along to the chinese here alleged. Breaking news just moments ago, the head of the United Autoworkers Union<\/a> announcing progress in talks with gm saying the strike is working but theyre not there quite yet. Reporter as for how much longer this may last, dont have an answer for you there. That is obviously part of the unions Core Strategy<\/a> is keeping everyone guessing about where they may or may not move next, but what i can tell you at least for the time being, the uaw has not expanded its strike. So this is the first week since the strike began, so week by week, we have seen the strike expand twice now. There was the initial strike, and then they expanded against gm and stellantis, and then they expanded against ford and gm, and each of those two expansions, the company that was left out was said to have made progress according to the union. This time around the union did not announce any new strike expansion. That is a point of significance. The other thing that stood out is what the union said came from gm just before the unions president spoke a short time ago. Heres part of what shawn fain had to say about what General Motors<\/a> is apparently giving in to now. We were about to shut down gms largest moneymaker in arlington, texas. The company knew those members were ready to walk immediately, and just that threat has provided a transformative win. Gm has now agreed in writing to place their electric battery manufacturing understood our National Master<\/a> agreement. Reporter yasmin, there are two things i want to point out there about Electric Vehicle<\/a> batteries. Evs are seen as the future of this industry. They are also something that has been a point of concern and contention throughout negotiations because theres the possibility that Electric Vehicle<\/a>s will require fewer workers to make them. That is something that is a point of concern for people, and the other thing that is interesting about what gm has apparently agreed to at this point is that a week ago when ford went from being given an exemption on further striking to being included in a strike expansion, the ceo of ford said that he believes the union was holding off a deal largely over Electric Vehicle<\/a> battery plants for that company. So you have to wonder what ford is now thinking that they are seeing that the union is saying that gm has agreed to something according to the union, that is, on a similar topic. So thats something were definitely going to be looking for closely. We have reached out to General Motors<\/a> for clarification, for confirmation on this but have not yet received the statement. We do know that we are expecting something from the General Motors<\/a> team. This is something that gets to the heart of the longterm concerns for workers and for this industry as this Industry Moves<\/a> toward an Electric Vehicle<\/a> future. In Security Footage<\/a> aired on staterun media, you see a girl with uncovered short black hair boarding a train. Then subsequently being dragged off of it, apparently unconscious. Nbc news cannot verify the authenticity of this video which does not show what actually happened inside of that train. Joining me now is former state Department Senior<\/a> adviser about this. The key is getting that footage from inside the train. The problem is it is unlikely the iranian government will release that footage to show what went o. But you look at the International Community<\/a> and how they view this, right . One year after the death of masa mahsa amini. Will the Community View<\/a> this as something that is repeatedly happening against women inside the country of iran . The International Community<\/a> just awarded a nobel prize to an iranian woman who is fighting for things like being able to go outside with your hair uncovered. Pretty simple freedom we enjoy here in the United States<\/a> and elsewhere in most of the world, but is against the law in iran. The United States<\/a> has sanctioned the Morality Police<\/a> after last years killing of mahsa amini and were waiting to hear what the United States<\/a> is going to do in this instance. We dont have many more tools left in the toolbox. The United States<\/a> has sanctioned iran since 1979, multiple sectors, right . We have the Energy Sector<\/a> because of the nuclear ambitions. We sanctioned the financial and banking. Weve made it very difficult for anything other than humanitarian aid to get in there, but this pattern and practice of behavior by irans Morality Police<\/a> to physically hurt, assault, and even kill women is something that is known. It is something now that is becoming more of an outrage in the Global Community<\/a> because of Internet Access<\/a>, so supporting covert Internet Access<\/a> for iranians has been huge. Yeah. But unless at this point, absent being able to go into iran and directly influence their behavior, the Global Community<\/a> is running out of options to match and meet the outrage of the women of iran. The thing is, though, it seems as if the regime right now in iran feels a bit emboldened, right . If that happens, you have a lot of activists, especially part of the diaspora here in the United States<\/a> who see that as em boldening the current regime in iran, especially when things like this are continuing to happen. Not just activists but many members of congress, many voters who believe in a hard line against iran, similarly a hard line against other regimes where the United States<\/a> have relationships, and also, those regimes that have massive human rights abuses. Saudi arabia is the classic example, but the United States<\/a> have major arms deal. Its a problem for the biden administration, especially with the progressive left. Biden came into office saying he was going to hold Human Rights Abusers<\/a> accountable. Then we see that he has cut new deals with saudi arabia. Were hearing about diplomatic talks to some degree with iran. And its that practical thing that takes over, that the practicality they argue is that these regimes arent changing anytime soon, so the United States<\/a> should get what it can get. What toll is that . What was the toll that you were seeing . We see all sorts of toll in terms of the physical toll of these injuries. Kids not only fatal injuries but also the nonfatal injuries have lifetime implications on the Mental Health<\/a> and well being of kids. And then we see the fear that these injuries are ingendering in the whole community. Parents are terrified. Kids are terrified. We really need to get ahold of this epidemic and make the place safer for our kids. Cordelia, what was it like to do this study, to work alongside your mom . Im sure that wasnt easy, having a mom myself and being a mom. But secondly, studying kids that are your age . Well, ive always been pretty interested in my moms work. I think what she does is really important. And i think my mom and i make a pretty good pairing because she likes to say im a contrarian, which i disagree with. But i think that, kind of, allows us to consider the data and be more precise with our language and our understanding, and it helps us really have a greater depth of knowledge of the data. And then i think that considering that this is especially applicable to my generation, it was quite alarming, just to realize the burden that my generation, i know my generation will have to bear and has had to bear for the lack of intervention in preventing these injuries. And i think its just especially alarming. I think its easy to become desensitized to the fact that or just to the word firearm in general. But the fact that these are children dying is really disheartening. I think its fascinating, dr. Mannix, seeing this from a scientific perspective, a physicians perspective versus just a political perspective. When you have to mar i are the two, what changes do you want to see happen coming out of this study what you learned. Its interesting. What we saw in the study was divergent trends. Nonfatal injuries are going down by 50 . Fatal injuries are going up by 25 . Nonfatal injuries are going down because we invested in protecting kids 30, 40 years ago. We got cars that are saver.
