New death in Monterey County Jail comes on the heels of continued legal battles

The latest inmate death occurred in the early morning hours on Oct. 24 when 34-year-old Edgar Damien Maldonado was found dead in his cell. Maldonado was jailed awaiting trial. The cause of death is still being investigated, according to Monterey County Undersheriff Keith Boyd.
