In the wake of new houses and schools being built in south Abilene, a 15-acre, multi-use development called The South End Addition is about to get underway at U.S. Highway 83/84 (Winters Freeway) and Beltway South (FM 707). Where mesquite, scrub and a pond are located between 7-Eleven and Lakes of Saddle Creek neighborhood, real estate developer and management company Moore Property Group is planning a strip shopping center, apartments, office buildings, park and, hopefully, a grocery store, said Alex Moore, company president. The development will work around a city water tower. "What we want to bring is the type of businesses that people were missing in this area. So we'd love to have a grocery store, and we're working on it and we're in contact with several," Moore said.
