SIESTA KEY – Few residents on Siesta Key like the idea of a roundabout at Beach and Midnight Pass roads. There is also strong opposition to the county adding 22 new parking spaces to the 500 block of Ocean Boulevard. Despite the opposition, however, Sarasota County commissioners agreed to press ahead with the changes, agreeing this week to spend $610,000 to fund both projects. While county commissioners had discussed both projects for months, no one spoke to the issue when it came up this week. It passed with a 5-0 vote. With parking at a premium on the barrier island, commissioners felt the additional spaces would be a much-needed improvement.
