View Comments HAMILTON - New Jersey State Police have formed a specialized Cold Case Unit, comprising veteran state police detectives and civilian investigators, to tackle the agency's hundreds of open cold case homicides. The unit works out of cubicles and offices at the New Jersey State Police Technology Building, around a bend in Negron Drive from the agency's Troop C headquarters. It was first conceived in January 2020. "Out of necessity, really, cold cases were being worked on a daily basis by our Major Crimes Unit for years," said Lt. Robert Cecchini, who leads the unit. "Our unit was created with mostly major crime detectives who were working active homicides. They had the experience."
