At stake is the future of several Tribune Publishing newspapers in Virginia and elsewhere, including the flagship Chicago Tribune, in the wake of a pending sale to hedge fund Alden Global Capital. Guild organizers are circulating a petition, which will be posted on the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission EDGAR website, against the sale. The deal requires an approval from two-thirds of Tribune Publishing’s shareholders.
