OCEANSIDE — Tests of equipment at Oceanside’s new El Corazon Aquatics Center have turned up mechanical issues that the city hopes to resolve in time for an August grand opening. “During this testing, it was noted that the circulation pumps for the instructional pool began cavitating, or sucking air into the system,” Deputy City Manager Jonathan Borrego said. Cavitation in water pumps, usually caused by tiny bubbles, can cause noise and vibration that reduce efficiency and damage the equipment. “The contractor and the design team are working together to resolve this issue,” Borrego said, adding that the problem should be solved in June and the expected opening remains on schedule.
