A locally led coalition of tribes, commercial and sport fishermen, businesses, scientists, and advocates has been pushing back; and now, they’re asking the Biden administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to permanently protect the Bristol Bay watershed from the largest proposed mine in the country as well as other potential megamines. Permanent protections for Bristol Bay would save a critical fishery, support the regional economy and tourism, and safeguard the area’s resilience to climate change.
