Daily Times Pakistan ‘disappointed’ as EU seeks review of GSP+ status over blasphemy law ‘abuse’ * FO says discourse in European Parliament reflects lack of understanding in context of blasphemy laws and associated religious sensitivities in Pakistan May 1, 2021 Pakistan on Friday expressed its disappointment over a resolution adopted on country’s blasphemy laws by the European Parliament, which also called for a review of GSP (Generalised Scheme of Preferences) plus status of the country. On Thursday, the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling for a review of the GSP+ status granted to Pakistan in view of an ‘alarming increase’ in the use of blasphemy accusations in the country as well as rising number of online and offline attacks on journalists and civil society organisations. The resolution also calls on the Government of Pakistan to ‘unequivocally condemn’ incitement to violence and discrimination against religions minorities in the country, and expresses ‘deep concern’ at the prevailing anti-French sentiment in Pakistan.
