Date Time Park fire ban to reduce bushfire risk A fire ban is in place for the Kosciuszko, Woomargama and Brindabella national parks ahead of the forecast extreme heatwave in South East NSW this weekend and beyond Australia Day. National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) Southern Ranges Branch Director, Mick Pettitt said NPWS is concerned about the significant increase in bush fire risk that will result from the heatwave conditions. “The heatwave is expected to commence on Saturday 23rd January and continue through until the middle of next week,” Mr Pettitt said. “The Park Fire Ban are designed to protect the safety of visitors and the reserves from the threat of bushfire and means solid fuel including wood, charcoal and briquettes cannot be used.
