New public opinion research by a Phoenix firm has found that roughly a third of registered Republicans see one of Arizona’s top Democrats — Sen. Kyrsten Sinema — in a favorable light. The polling comes as Sinema has focused on working with the GOP and thwarted calls from liberals to end the filibuster. The research chief for OH Predictive Insights said if Sinema hopes to get re-elected in 2024, she’ll have to balance supporting the Democratic agenda, with keeping a significant number of Republicans and Independents on her side. Marilyn Rodriguez, founder of the progressive advocacy and lobbying firm Creosote Partners, said Sinema has turned her back on the people who elected her, and what they want is for her to help President Biden pass the so-called Build back better plan.
