Power grid serving Lubbock, Amarillo area on high alert due to extreme cold

Lubbock, state see power outages as Arctic blast tests grid
Extreme cold temperatures and high electric usage forced multiple power outages across Lubbock on Monday. Lubbock Power & Light says for the first time, one outage was intentional.
Heading into Tuesday, electric providers across the state continue asking users to conserve electricity as Texas faces high demand and some reduced capacity caused by nearly half of the state's wind power production being taken offline due to the icy conditions.
“This is an ongoing record weather event, bringing some of the coldest temperatures we’ve seen in 40 years,” said David McCalla, executive director for LP&L. “This has put a strain on grids across the state, including our region, and today we’re asking our customers to please do what they can to reduce their electric use for the stability of the overall grid.”
