Millions of residents face Christmas in lockdown if Sydney fails control a coronavirus outbreak on the Northern Beaches within the next two days. NSW recorded another 15 new infections on Monday, taking the total number of cases linked to the cluster to 83, with the majority centred around the wealthy beachside suburb of Avalon. Contact tracers are working around the clock to nip the outbreak in the bud by finding everyone infected and those they came into contact with. Premier Gladys Berejiklian on Sunday ordered the Northern Beaches into lockdown and urged the rest of Sydney to avoid non-essential travel until midnight on Wednesday.
