The regional clinics are designed to make the vaccine more readily available to all corners of Rhode Island. The vaccines are open to anyone in the state. Gov. Dan McKee, who also attended Westerly’s opening Wednesday, said the goal is to ensure that every Rhode Islander is within 15 minutes of a clinic. “Mayoral leaders play a major role in Rhode Island’s reopening,” he said. “The more vaccinations we get in arms, the quicker we reopen.” Although Rhode Island got off to a slow start, earning a failing grade from Harvard University in vaccine distribution, McKee said the state has since moved to a B grade. He said he made a phone call to Harvard to find out how Rhode Island could improve its ranking.
