Written in 1903 with a melody borrowed from âIâve Been Working on the Railroad,â the song has for decades been a part of post-game celebrations, graduation ceremonies, weddings, and even funerals. The report was never really intended to decide the songâs use at UT. Hartzell already determined the song will stay, but he did say that had something significant been uncovered, it might have been taken into consideration. âThis report gives us a common set of facts for more conversations,â Hartzell said. âItâs possible the committee could have uncovered something that could have caused us to reconsider. It did not.â
