Revitalize Gastown's alleys as business hubs: Vancouver urban study

There has been a lot of talk about Gastown coming out of Vancouver city hall over the last decade, but not much action. So the Gastown Business Improvement Society decided to do its own urban design study.
It was released Friday. Among its recommendations: Activating and animating Gastown’s alleys by opening businesses in them, installing artwork and/or plants, and maybe cutting down on the giant garbage bins.

“We’re in talks with the city, businesses and residents about whether we can have more of a central waste system,” said Walley Wargolet of the improvement society. “Can we get away from having 25 bins in each of the alleyways to make them more palatable to people walking through them?”
