Diane Murphy paid nearly $100 for her 12 mile ride home from LAX. She says it was a $70 jump from the usual fare. "I would have, at that point, called my son, who lives a mile from the airport, and said 'Would you like to make 80 bucks and pick up your mom from the airport?'" So what's going on? Chris Gerace, a rideshare driver and contributor to the industry blog "The Rideshare Guy" says it comes down to supply and demand. He says when the pandemic hit, and passengers dried up, drivers fled the platform. But now that California is opening back up, people are going places and wanting rides, but drivers haven't returned.
