Salt City Market puts Syracuse’s diversity on full display (Editorial) Updated Jan 28, 2021; Here’s one thing the pandemic couldn’t ruin. Salt City Market finally opens on Friday, Jan. 29, to much anticipation and fanfare from downtown dwellers, workers and food lovers across Central New York. It fills a long-empty corner lot with a modern, mixed-use structure that houses apartments, offices and a gleaming new food hall featuring cake, coffee, pies, fresh juices, flowers and food from around the world: Burma, Jamaica, Thailand, Iraq, Vietnam and the American South. But it’s not just a shiny new building. It’s one thing to say diversity matters. It is far more impactful and compelling to invest in diversity, to elevate and celebrate it.
