Goal: Protect United Kingdom territory from environmental threat of iceberg collision. An iceberg estimated to be the size of Delaware may put a British-owned island and the abundant wildlife around it in dire straits. The A68a iceberg, which is the largest in the world, has been drifting through the South Antarctic seas since it separated from a larger piece of ice in 2017. Now this massive structure is on a collision course with the island of South Georgia. The island has no human inhabitants except teams of researchers. Penguins, seals, and whales feed around the island in large numbers, however. This vibrant ecosystem could be in peril for up to ten years if the iceberg crashes into the island. Currently, the icy threat is an ominous 150ish miles from South Georgia. Impact could come before the end of the year.
