Vasarely’s “Mylla” and Zobel’s “Dos de Mayo III’ If there is a kind of art that is not pretentious, it’s abstract painting—well, to a certain extent. There is no accurate depiction. Just wild brushstrokes, unusual shapes, and crazy colors all contributing to making one grotesque piece of art. It can be joyful and chaotic but also streamlined and serene. That is what Léon Gallery is showcasing at the ongoing Art Fair Philippines 2021: the beauty of abstract art. Dubbed as “Elemental,” the exhibit features masterpieces from virtuosic geometric abstractionists. It includes the works of world-renowned painters such as Hungarian-French artist Victor Vasarely (1906–1997) and Venezuelan kinetic artist Carlos Cruz-Diez (1923–2019).
