As Victoria forges ahead with Australia's first formal truth-telling process, the father of reconciliation, Labor senator Patrick Dodson, says the process is in the slow lane federally.
Yesterday, the Senate voted down his motion for a Joint Select Committee to inquire into the truth telling and treaty making elements of Makarrata as called for in the Uluru Statement from the Heart.
He says that calls for a truth telling commission are not going to go away, and Australia, as a mature, modern democracy, should "face up to it".
