For the love of chinatown, please name at the chinatown rose pak station. Thank you. Next speaker, please. Good afternoon. San francisco has been my home for the last 35 years. I am married to a fourthgeneration san franciscan and we raised our three children here. My family works, we go to school , we socialize and live in this beautiful, vibrant, inclusive and historic city. I have the honour to meet rose pak. I was impressed with her confidence, commanding, and caring disposition. She is a truthful and integral women who cared for her family, friends, and most importantly, the community of chinatown. Many people work hard to make the chinatown welcoming and fun for residents and visitors. She was a leader in this endeavour and taught everyone how to make her Community Better her accomplishments, including the munimobile station connecting chinatown to the rest of San Francisco, are astounding and should not have been forgotten. Im here out of respect for a woman who gave her life to the city of San Francisco. Thank you. Next speaker, please. Your time is going to start running right now. Right now . It is a Grassroots Organization with over 1,800 members, and the majority of them are low income chinatown residents who are also daily munimobile writers. Whether it is funding for central subway, Affordable Housing for chinese hospital, rose has always advocated for us and striving to improve the community. It is the most appropriate to name the station after her. On the one hand, to commemorate her life, and also to remind future generations on her and her dedication to the community. I urge you all to approve the naming of chinatown rose pak station. Thank you. Thank you very much. Next speaker, please. Folks, i realize you may be friendly [speaking foreign language] [speaking foreign language] thank you very much. Thank you. Your time is up. Please translate. Voice of translator i have lived in chinatown for 301 years now. I am living in soma and i am a daily munimobile rider. When the embarcadero freeway was demolished, rose knew it was an opportunity to get central subway for the Chinatown Community. Whether it is leading the efforts of gathering over 10,000 signatures in support of attending Community Meetings or city hall hearings, her presence was instrumental. Without rose there, there will be no central subway. We should all support the naming of chinatown rose pak station to commemorate this female warrior in our community. Thank you. Thank you very much. Next speaker, please. Im sorry, i have to report a situation. The names that you called, the sheriff will not allow them to come in. Were working on that. Thank you. If peoples names have been called, they should be allowed in. Hello, we are a group of four people. Please state your name. You have a name you have a minute. We are a group, so we will stay continuously. We understand you are under pressure to make a decision today on the naming of the chinatown new subway station. Please allow us to shed some light on this matter. We know that aaron peskin was very outspoken against rose pak in 2011. By that time, he has already changed his position from the board of supervisors. He was able to speak his mind. According to the examiner, peskin has committed submitted a 305 page letter to the a 305 a 305 page letter. Rose pak was closely submitted to the group. I will play a video. Your time is running. Yeah, i know. Is it connecting . Sir, your time is running. Im not sure where the audio is. Next speaker, please. All right, welcome. You have a minute. Okay. My name is jesse. Isnt it interesting that supervisor peskin had the knowledge that rose pak was with the peoples republic of china representative in San Francisco . It might be hard for you to digest it, but many forces have pointed to that. According to the article published on foreignpolicy, rose pak has a very specific and demonstrable ties to the Chinese Government. She was an overseas executive director with the exchange association. It is a foreign affair organization under the direction of the Chinese Government that overseas chinese affairs. The Chinese Governments council is equivalent to our state department. Thank you very much. Next speaker, please. Hi, my name is christian. Where rose pak was a director is mentioned in a counterintelligence and development newsletter. She has been relentlessly carrying out the chinese consulates missing in San Francisco and influenced many chinese organizations. Magazine even quoted that according to four former intelligence officials, their concerns that rose pak had been coopted by chinese intelligence and was wielding influence over San Francisco politics that was beneficial to the Chinese Government. And other worry was that she had a role in organizing the mayors junket to china, political junkets used by chinese intelligence for surveillance. Intelligence communities say she is the likely agent with influence in beijing. Thank you. Thank you very much. Next speaker, please. Good afternoon. My name is joel. My family immigrated to the u. S. In the 1970s. I grew up in San Francisco chinatown, so i have a lot of history with seeing what is going on. I remember back in those days we used to have the 480 freeway that allowed us to smooth sail in and out of chinatown. It was like the lifeline of chinatown. But unfortunately, after the earthquake of 1989, the freeway was tear down, after that, the business, the people in the prosperity of chinatown had gone down the drain. Later on, it was found that it was rose pak who sold out chinatown. It wasnt like that. It was and later on, because of the collusion of rose pak and some highpowered city officials , they later decided to tear down that freeway. As a result, for 30 years the people of chinatown have suffered. I remember the suffering and over 90 of the merchants remember that. Please, todays decision, remember that it is the voice of the people of chinatown, the voice of the merchants, the prosperity that will speak to you. I hope you can make a decision and listen to our voice. Thank you very much. Thank you very much. Next speaker, please. Board of directors, my name is lisa and i work in the general hospital. I have a very big concern because my friend, mr. Chan, is a chinese doctor, and he works at the hospital in china. His brotherinlaw is the c. E. O. Of a hospital, and he told me that no hospital is actually [indiscernible] all of us know that rose pak went to china to have her kidney transplants. It is very suspicious, very controversial. I hope everyone considers it very carefully because once we name after rose pak, so if we fully discover the truth, what will happen . Thank you very much. Next speaker, please. Thank you. Thank you, Board Members. My name is chris. I have come here to tell you about the results of a tribunal that was held in europe. We have been coming here to tell you about how rose pak mistreated china. You may feel, how do i know this is true or why should i care . In 1943, a polish resistance soldier and a Georgetown University professor escaped nazi death camps to tell the story about the holocaust. No one believed him. A Supreme Court justice said, i did not say that this young man was lying, i said that i was unable to believe what he told me. The holocaust has become something we all know today and the world vows never again. Just two months ago, a london tribunal concluded that the killing of prisoners in china for organ transplant has been happening in largescale. And for many years, the victims are mainly practitioners. Please do not easily brush away evil just because the evil is too much. And be careful not to tarnish the city and your name by honouring rose pak. Thank you. Thank you very much. Next speaker, please. [speaking foreign language] voice of translator good afternoon, everyone. I represent single room occupancy families to be here today to support the naming of chinatown rose pak station. Rose has always been an advocate for the community and she always is a walking on the front fight for our community. I hope that you can support the naming of chinatown rose pak station. Thank you. Thank you very much. I see we are joined by supervisor campos. You have your choice to jump those four people or weight. I knew exactly what you were going to say. Very good. Next speaker, please. I am here to speak on my own will. I live in chinatown and my family and i are frequent writers. Me and my family live in chinatown and we all support the central subway to be renamed as chinatown rose pack rose rose pak station. She has done a great contribution to the construction of china hospital, and she advocated for central subway for chinatown. She also worked with the Police Assistance on chinatowns safety she serves as a model for me and my son, and i support the renaming to be chinatown rose pak station. Thank you. Thank you very much. Next speaker, please. Supervisor campos, what did we do to your former colleagues that they shut off our airconditioning . I dont know what is going on as you may recall, we gave you everything you wanted. [laughter]. Thank you very much for your service, commissioners. I will be very brief. There is a reason why i wanted to be here. I work in the south bay. It i thought it was important for me to be here. Naming any kind of public space or public building after any individual is a challenge. I just went through the naming of the harvey milk terminal. But as challenging as it is, the reason why it is important is because of what it means to communities. I can tell you that the very argument that has been used against harvey milk terminal are being used against the rose pak station. The fact is, no one who is important or consequential can be important or consequential without creating enemies. Yet, i think if you look at the contributions of this individual , it is important to recognize them, and it means a lot to this community, and that is why im here to stand with our chinatown brothers and sisters to say, do the right thing and named us a named the station after rose pak. Thank you very much. Next speaker, please. [please stand by] were heard and our issues addressed. Without her activism in our community, our community would not be thriving today. Therefore, its fitting that the station be named at chinatown rose pak station. Lets not let the rose pak name fall into the streets. Thank you. Thank you very much. Next speaker, please. Hello, Board Members. My name is laurie gorham. When immigrants come to america, they usually do so to live the American Dream and assimilate to the values. I cant help but ponder for what reason because it is not obvious why anyone would want to align with a communist sympathizer such as rose pak. I believe that chinese immigrants come to america because they no longer want to be oppressed by a communist regime. Yet here, it seems that some supervisors want to do just that. The name chinatown station is appropriate. Please read the Human Rights Foundation letter. Clerk thank you very much. Next speaker, please. Good afternoon, commissioners. We have evidence that rose pak supporters have been recruiting members please state your name, please. Chun lee. We have evidence that rose pak supporters have been recruiting members of the public to attend m. T. A. Meetings by offering them free food and drink and also paying them 25 per hour. On sunday, we obtained a we chat log from a chat Group Related to todays event that belongs to a Public Affairs organization. We chat is a social media site similar to facebook. It says, important notice. The arrangement for everybodys work on august 20, tuesday. Working hours, 12 30 p. M. To 8 30 p. M. Meeting up at San Francisco city hall. Things to do attend a meeting. We will serve food and drink to all attendees. If you are able to come, reply with a thumbs up. These tactics of artificially paying for support are not only deplorable but deceiving the m. T. A. And the public. Chairman, can we switch to the video just briefly. You can play it, but it counts towards your time. Are you playing that video . Y [video] thank you very much. Next speaker, please. Its got to say chinatown. That says it all. Keep it sweet and simple. Thank you. Next speaker, please. Good afternoon. My names shen zhen. Naming the station is a serious matter. Rose pak is such a controversial figure, so dont waste our time and insult the chinese community. I would encourage you to read a report called chinas influence on america. You know why you should not honor rose pak, and we should not have her name on our subsway station. Chinese nation has a long history of suppressing the people. Rose pak helped the Chinese Government to actively carry out its policy. Why do we honor her in america. My names tony wong. Id like to play a video by aaron peskin earlier. [video] thank you.
