Skylar Mack, 18, a US medical student, and Vanjae Ramgeet, 24, a professional jet skier, were released from prison yesterday, January 15, after being sentenced to jail for 2-months for breaking COVID-19 rules on November 29 when Mack attended Ramgeet's jet ski competition just two days into her 14-day COVID quarantine Her Majesty’s Cayman Islands Prison Service confirmed last week that applications for pre-discharge leave, under the terms of section 30 (2) of Prisons Law were received on behalf of both Ms Mack and Mr Ramgeet, and Ms Mack boarded a Cayman Airways flight yesterday morning, intended for the United States. According to officials, both Mack and Ramjeet completed their sentence in accordance with Cayman law but received shorter sentences due to a lack of precedent that was in place, given that it was the first such case under Cayman's more stringent COVID-19 regulations.
