Sound Off for Jan. 10, 2021 The Gainesville Sun • Gainesville hasn’t changed. UF, as always, gets everything first — even the vaccine. • In reference to the guaranteed income, I think Mayor Lauren Poe should be first in line to take a pay cut from his city of Gainesville job to support this program. You know what they say: Actions speak louder than words. • Congratulations and thank you to The Swamp for rebuilding in Gainesville a design that will be good for the people and the planet, the opposite of concrete-canyon types elsewhere. • When the voters passed the latest School Board-requested tax, it was touted to be for renovations. As soon as they had the money, the School Board bought a very expensive piece of property in the western part of the county for a new elementary school. We all knew we were being lied to. This school was not necessary; there are plenty of desks available in the county. We were proven right now when they are proposing to close Terwilliger Elementary — a perfectly good building. They’re going to sell it because they wanted a new school on the western side of the county. We have been taken. Please, let’s not let this happen again.
