Sounds, music linked to pleasant experiences can improve mood in people with memory problems Hearing sounds that are linked to positive experiences from the past can considerably increase well-being, reduce depressive moods and alleviate behavioral problems in people with memory loss, a study by the University of Zurich in cooperation with clinical partners has found. The work with music and memories also benefits the nursing staff and carers involved. Memories form a large part of who we are. Sounds and music that are linked to pleasant experiences can evoke positive associations and thus lift our mood - especially for people with memory problems. These are the findings of a study by the Center for Gerontology and the University Research Priority Program "Dynamics of Healthy Aging" at the University of Zurich.
