SpaceX to launch 'DOGE-1' lunar mission next year By Lucas Manfredi Photos from Getty Images SpaceX CEO Elon Musk teased back on April Fools Day that his aerospace company would "put a literal Dogecoin on the literal moon." However, the announcement was no joke, as the billionaire is now following through on that promise. Musk tweeted Sunday that SpaceX will launch Doge-1, the first-ever commercial payload entirely funded by Dogecoin, aboard a Falcon 9 rocket. The mission, in partnership Geometric Space Corporation, will send a 40 kilogram cube satellite to the moon in the first quarter of 2022. According to a news release, the payload will "obtain lunar-spatial intelligence from sensors and cameras on-board with integrated communications and computational systems."
