Illinois health officials on Thursday reported 102 additional deaths of people with COVID-19 and 2,838 new cases of coronavirus disease. The Illinois Department of Public Health also reported that 1.54 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine had been administered as of Wednesday night, with 346,773 people, or 2.7% of the state population, fully vaccinated with two doses. While supplies of vaccine remain short, Gov. JB Pritzker said at a news conference in Elgin that Illinois, as of last week, placed first among the nation’s 10 most populous states in per-capita vaccinations and fifth among the six most populous states in total vaccinations. “These are things to be very proud of,” Pritzker said.
