Steven Yeun is first Asian American to be nominated for Best

Steven Yeun on Monday became the first Asian American to be nominated for best actor at the Academy Awards.
Yeun was nominated for his work in the film “Minari,” which was directed by Lee Isaac Chung. The film is a semi-autobiographical depiction of Chung’s Korean American family, who moved to a small farm in Arkansas when he was growing up.
The film has received widespread acclaim, and holds a 98 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

"Minari is a gentle, lovely picture, one that acknowledges there really is no 'immigrant experience,' beyond the pure human experience of finding yourself adjusting to a new environment," Stephanie Zacharek wrote in her review of Minari for Time Magazine.
