A stomach bug, not COVID-19, has left several participants in the Walker Cup feeling under the weather on the eve of the competition, which is scheduled to be played Saturday and Sunday at Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Fla.
The Walker Cup pits the top amateurs from the United States against those from Great Britain and Ireland every other year.
"Over the past 24 hours, a number of players from both the GBI and USA teams have been treated for gastrointestinal issues and are currently under observation by medical professionals at the teams' hotel," said a joint statement issued Friday by the USGA and RA. "All players from both teams have tested negative in their daily screenings and COVID-19 has been ruled out as the cause. The players have adhered to the strict health and safety guidelines established as a code of conduct for the match.
