Substation by Norfork Dam catches fire, causes outage to several NAEC members

A fire caused damage to a power substation by the Norfork Dam and an outage to over 4,000 members of North Arkansas Electric Cooperative. The cooperative is reporting a regulator is on fire in the Norfork substation, and it has also been affecting the Pineville and Sycamore Springs substations.
According to a Baxter County 911 dispatch spokesperson, several fire crews are on the scene, and motorists are asked to avoid the area north of Salesville on Arkansas Highway 177 if possible. No cause of the fire has been announced.
In the latest update on its social media accounts, NAEC reports members served by the Norfork substation will experience an extended outage lasting at least well into the night, and power cannot be restored until the regulator is replaced and any damage to the structure is repaired.
