Granted, you can find more outright athleticism and speed in such rivals as the Porsche Macan, Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, BMW X3 and Mercedes AMG GLC models, but the Audi SQ5 does not sacrifice passenger comfort on the altar of apex chasing, which this writer finds commendable and somewhat refreshing. And with it breezing through the zero to 100 km benchmark in 5.0 seconds, the SQ5 ain’t no pushover. A few subtle visual tweaks separate the SQ5 from its lesser siblings – 20-inch wheels, deeper bumpers, larger side-sills and a rear spoiler. Opt for the Technik and you get 21-inch rollers. This tester is dressed up with the $800 Black Package, red brake calipers ($500) and Glacier White Metallic paint ($800). The SQ5 comes across as muscular and elegant while avoiding unwanted brashness – it’s a nicely resolved, sharp-edged piece.
