Photo provided. April 22, 2021 Taco Bell is advancing its plant-based food strategy with a pilot test of a plant-based protein made from a pea/chickpea blend. The news comes on the heels of the brand's continued commitment to provide more vegetarian options in 2021. Last month, the brand introduced the spicy potato soft taco and its cheesy fiesta potatoes. Called the Cravetarian (think vegetarian) Taco, the "boldly seasoned" menu item includes everything the Crunchy Taco Supreme has except, obviously, the meat, according to a Taco Bell spokesperson, and is priced at $2.19. "The term Cravetarian is inspired by all of Taco Bell's craveable options and it emphasizes how no one should have to sacrifice bold flavors for their lifestyle," the spokesperson told QSRWeb in an email. "When the Cravetarian Taco is served as-is, it is American Vegetarian Association certified vegetarian and 180 calories, while a standard crunchy taco supreme is 190 calories."
